life in braces
You’re through the series of plaster casts and perhaps even the tenotomy, this means you passed the first challenges, congrats!
A new era awaits, you finally got rid of the casts: now it’s time for the splint, we call it braces and bar. (your baby will become a true Bracer! 🙂 )
For some clubfoot babies this can be a tough period, at first it may seem like it restricts the movement of your baby even more. Luckily most babies get used to it pretty quickly.
Your baby will start doing all sorts of things in no time with the braces and bar on: rolling, crawling, sitting up, standing up and even walking! These children have amazing strength and willpower.
As a parent you watch out for every movement of the baby, we clumsily try to put the braces on during the first weeks and worry whether we are doing everything the right way.
As the days go by you get more confident in all of it, this is incredibly important! Your baby will feel that you are trying to do the best for them and your confidence will have a positive effect.
You may face difficult times during the process, but always think of the goal: to see your baby walk and run like any other child would!
I wish you all the best for the challenges ahead and I hope we will be able to help during the bracing period too.
